Stokes, Hales named in England ODI squad

ENGLAND all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named in the 16-man squad to take on Australia in their upcoming five-match one day series.

Stokes hasn't played for England since September when he was involved in an altercation outside a Bristol nightspot.

That incident saw Stokes placed under investigation for causing actual bodily harm. The 26-year-old's case is currently in front of the UK's Crown Prosecution Service.

Stokes has not been charged at this point but has played no role in the Ashes, with the ECB suspending him until further notice as a result of the incident.

The call-ups of both Stokes and Alex Hales, who was there on the night of the altercation but has been cleared of any wrongdoing - are both provisional.

"Their involvement remains subject to any relevant legal or disciplinary developments in relation to the incident in Bristol in September," the ECB said in a media release on Friday.

"Should the ECB Board receive formal confirmation that Ben Stokes has either been charged or that he will face no charges, they would convene within 48 hours to make a decision on his availability for the team at that stage."

Stokes last week arrived in New Zealand where he's playing for Canterbury. He was dismissed for two runs on debut for the club and made 34 on Wednesday.
