BRIGHT FUTURES: Mitchell State School’s high achievers

THE Western Star to the inspiring students from Prep to Year Six at Mitchell State School this week.

Students discussed their favour subjects, who they look up to and what they hope to achieve in the future.

We also got a tour of My Kitchen Garden and saw the hard work of the students and teachers.

Avie Mackay - Year 3

AVIE'S teachers commended her for her dedication to reading books above her level to further improve her reading and writing skills.

Avie's favourite book is a series of fairies in the Caterpillar box.

"There's a few characters, like the fairies and goblins and Kirsty and Rachel are the main characters," she said.

"I like them because they have problems and you have to fix them all the time because the goblins steal their wands and they then don't have magic to use."

There's no surprise that Avie's favourite subject at school is English.

In the future, Avie said she could either "make books or could have a library because there's lots of books in them".

"I like reading because I get to know more things and I've got another book in my desk which is new and there's all different words that I use and I'm not even up to that level and I'm learning all different words so I can be better as a reader or a writer."

Hallie Page - Year 4

HALLIE also loves to spend her time reading at school, but has recently became interested in learning a musical instrument.

Hallie started to learn to play the clarinet this year.

"I wanted to try something new and I like it," she said.

"I play at school and at home.

"I like learning the new notes, we haven't learnt any songs yet but I've learnt E, D and C and hope to play for a while longer."

Hallie said she either wanted to be a doctor or play music when she's older.

Theo Belz - Prep

PREP student Theo said he wants to be a police officer, just like Constable Kevin Yang when he grows up.

He said he hopes "get bad people away".

On Monday, officer Yang introduced himself to all the prep students and told the work police officers have to do.

At school, Theo mostly enjoyed "playing Lego and doing reading," he said.

"I like superhero books and Spider-Man is my favourite superhero."

Theo said he enjoyed 'home corner' at school because he can play Lego and build.

Milla Lawson - Year 6

MILLA couldn't wait to get outside and give a tour of the schools My Kitchen Garden.

Teachers have given Year 5 and 6 students the responsibility to take care of the garden.

Milla was so proud to show off and explain all the new vegetables and fruit students have planted. The chooks and ducks didn't stand a chance as Milla ran around trying to pick them up.

"I really like Ag at school because we get to go outside and do some learning, then we do prac and theory," she said.

"We get to go to My Kitchen Garden and weed and plant new stuff and we can go to the chooks and clean out the shed. We have two chooks and three new ducks."

Colbee Kenefake - Year 6

COLBEE was thrilled to show off the garden and yank out a vegetable or two from the veg patch.

However, her real passion is drama and art at school.

Colbee started dancing at the age of two.

"I do acro dance, jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, contemporary and musical theatre," she said.

"My favourite is hip hop as it's upbeat and I feel I can add my own spice to it."

She said she can't wait to be a dance teacher when she's older and looks up to JoJo Siwa, Maddie Ziegler and Pressley Hosbach.

Lachie McInnerney - Year 6

LACHIE wasn't as keen as the girls to grab the chooks and ducks, saying "I don't deal with poultry, I'm fine with cattle".

Lachie has worked on the family farm since he could walk. He lives on a property 10km from school, across from Colbee's grandma's house.

"I mostly enjoy Ag at school, probably because I lived on a property my whole life and I enjoy cattle work and all that sorter stuff because I think it's really fun to do," he said.

"I love getting outside and not sitting down because it's mostly active and hands on."

"I used to play netball, I like to play soccer and do dancing," she said.

She is currently enjoying jazz and hip hop.

Amy said she hopes to pursue something a little different when she grows up.

"I want to be a wildlife warrior," she said.

"And work at Australia Zoo with Bindi Irwin."

Her favourite animals at the zoo are snakes and crocodiles.

"I saw a big crocodile at the zoo before."

Linda Ware - Year 1

ENGLISH is Linda's favourite subject at school.

"I'm reading Pandamonia at the moment, so people go to the zoo and if you wake up the panda, he goes mad - it's funny," she said.

Linda lives on a farm out of town and has a lot of animals at home.

"I got a new poddy baby sheep called Lambo, my sister Willow named it," she said.

"I have a dog Pickles, Wilbur and two other dogs that stay in the pen cause they bit the sheep's tail.

"I have Ginger Rogers the calf and some chickens call Rona and Woopie Goldberg."
