Car found bogged in creek
POLICE were called to Bungil Creek Sunday morning after a car was found bogged in the water.
At 7.47am police located the 2000 red Volkswagen Golf near the intersection of Arthur and George sts stuck in Bungil Creek.
An 18-year-old probationary driver, from Yuleba, was inside the vehicle and was transported to the Roma Police Station.
Acting Senior-Sergeant Chris Keenan said a drink driving offence was believed to have happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
"A further breath test at 11am indicated the driver had a blood alcohol reading of 0.11, which is double the (usual) legal limit,” Sgt Keenan said.
Connor Simpson came across the situation on Sunday morning.
"We were on our way to work at 7.10am and saw the car and went over to check it out,” Mr Simpson said.
"We were then turning around to leave when we realised someone was in the car.
"We saw they were trying to hide from us and just laid down in the car, so we left and called the police.”
Sgt Keenan highlighted the dangers of drink driving and how easily the incident could have become even more serious.
"Its a simple message: Don't drink and drive,” he said.
"This gentleman was twice the legal limit and has ended up in the park creek Sunday morning and people could have easily been walking in the park and could have become victims of his behaviour.”
The driver will appear in Roma Magistrates Court tomorrow and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
