EVENT: Maranoa Motorbike Toy Run to go ahead this year

IT WAS in 2012 when Roma local John Finnigan came up with a great idea to create a spectacle through the streets of town while giving to kids in need.

The Annual Maranoa Motorcyclists Toy Run is going ahead again in 2020 and anyone from the public is welcome to bring their motorbike along to support a good cause.

Mr Finnigan, who has led the charge for organising the independent event, is thankful for Anglicare providing their support in delivering the presents to foster children across the Southwest and Western Downs.

"It's an outdoor event so I had a chat with the local police and there's no problems there," Mr Finnigan said in relation to social distancing.

A motorbike enthusiast at heart, Mr Finnigan still wants to help the community see that not all motorbikers are 'bikies' or 'crooks', and it's possible for good-hearted enthusiasts to do kind things for the community.

"To show people that we're just ordinary people," he said.

"It's not a co-ordinated thing, you see on TV somebody, somewhere has a thing on."

The socially-distanced gathering will be at 8am at Bassett Park on November 28, for an 8.30am start.

Then the motorbikes will ride to the Clay Target Club on the southside of town for a meet-up.
