GALLERY: Carers recognised for their tireless efforts

THEY aren’t paid, yet they are invaluable, and on Friday night they were celebrated by the community who values them most.

Carers Queensland hosted more than 90 carers and their families from the Roma community at a gala evening marking the end of Carers’ Week.

“All week we have been celebrating the contribution that Australia’s 2.7 million carers make to our communities and society,” Carers Queensland area manager Sarah Bone said.

“This has been a time to give back to them, so tonight we’ve had some fund and some food, but it is really about having the opportunity for carers to come together and for us to acknowledge the hard work they do every single day.

“They might be a parent who is caring for a child with a disability, an older person who is caring for a loved one with dementia, or even a friend in the street who goes and does the shopping and helps somebody manage independently — a carer could be anybody, but they are all selfless and give themselves to others.”
