How long we'll have to wait for roadworks north of Gympie

IF YOU thought there was an end in sight for upgrades to the Bruce Hwy north of Gympie, you were wrong.

The main roads department is working on three different sites along the busy highway between Glenwood and Tinana.

Some of these works have already started, but other works are set to begin later in the year.

A spokesperson from the Department of Transport and Main Roads said the projects would improve "safety and efficiency" along the Bruce Hwy in the area.

So where are these sites and when will the roadworks end?

South of Tiaro:

Widening works are underway at two sites between Glenwood and Tiaro, providing greater separation between cars and trucks travelling in opposite directions.

The sites form part of a $9 million package of works and work is are expected to be completed in late 2016.

Two sites near Bauple were recently completed as part of this package.

Tinana interchange:

A $38 million project to upgrade the Bruce Hwy interchange at Tinana started in July this year.

The project includes a new interchange to improve safety and efficiency and will take about 12 months to complete.
