Incredible Creations: local artist launches new exhibition
UPON completely covering her home septic tank nearly two decades ago with a magnificent mosaic face lift, Miles mother and artist Kylie Bourne discovered her new artistic pursuit and passion.
Kylie launched her third and largest collection of work at Dogwood Crossing art gallery in Miles this week, titled TRE360.
An enormous body of work spanning 136 pieces, the exhibit officially opened to an equally impressive crowd from right across southern Queensland Friday evening.
TRE360 is inspired by Kylie's rambling gardens and studio nestled on the banks of the Dogwood Creek near Miles.
Exploring the diverse and exquisite beauty of trees, the exhibition touches on many of nature's themes, such as the colours through the seasons, flowers and fruit as well as many stunning creatures that inhabit the region.
Kylie has created another world inside the The John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery creating mosaics and installations from glass, tile, mirror, precious tit-bits, enamel, and natural and re-purposed elements.
Complementing Bourne's exhibition are the amazing natural tree stump sculptures of artist and friend Mark Duncan.
Making the evening even more special, Friday's opening also encompassed a body of photography works from Kylie's daughter Sophie who loves to capture the world around her through the lens of her camera.
"Bits and Bobs" on The Curved Wall encompasses a collection of recent photographs from Sophie exploring a diverse mix of subjects, from animals, people, places, spaces, and nature and marks the first combined mother, daughter exhibition opening for Dogwood Crossing.
Both exhibits will be on display from now until February 1, 2020 so make sure you take a day these holidays to go and simply marvel at the wonderful local talent bubbling away in the Miles community.
Kylie is also hosting a mosaic workshop in the near future so to get in touch and find out more information, head the the Dogwood Crossing gallery website here.
