Man jailed for crime spree from St George to Toowoomba

SIGNIFICANT drug addiction was behind a 32-year-old man's two-part crime spree in which he stole a series of cars and other items from farms and properties between St George and Toowoomba.

Daniel Mark Jones' crime spree had started in April last year at Thallon where he stole a utility and trailer.

He was taken into custody mid-year and when released he had gone to live with his ex-partner but she soon kicked him out and he returned to his crime spree, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

One of his most serious burglaries was that of the Queensland Hotel in Goondiwindi on October 28 where he smashed a window to gain access and caused $3582 damage.

After stealing cars from properties, Jones would fuel the cars from pumps on the farm or commit drive-offs from service stations.

His solicitor Nathan Bouchier told the court when his client was drug free he was a contributing member of society.
Jones had a job waiting for him upon release.

Magistrate Graham Lee declared 380 days pre-sentence custody as time served and sentenced Jones to three years jail but ordered he be released immediately on parole.

He was also ordered to make $5214 restitution.
