Maranoa netball grand finals heat up

NETBALL: Bassett Park played host to a cracking finals series for the Maranoa Netball Association juniors on Saturday evening.

The formidable league encompassed teams from Roma, Injune, Wallumbilla, Surat, Mitchell, Teelba and distance education kids, with players aged 6-15 years battling it out on the courts.

Maranoa Netball Association president Wendy Steinohrt said it was an excellent afternoon.

"There was a great atmosphere, lots of girls turned out, lots of parents turned up, it was fantastic,” Steinohrt said.

"You have to be really proud to be part of a club with so many numbers.

"This is actually our first year that we've had a boy play in our competition, which was a really big step forward for us.”

She said there was great sportsmanship on and off the court from coaches and players.

"I was lucky enough to umpire two games, some- times the score didn't reflect what was happening on the court - they were some really hard-fought finals games,” Steinohrt said.

"It's just fantastic that so many kids are playing the sport in such a vast area and they all play together.”
