ORIGIN GALLERY: Roma pubgoers’ excitement over Game III
ENTHUSIASTIC Maroons supporters decked out in jerseys attended their local watering holes in droves to watch one of the most exciting matches in State of Origin History.
This year’s Decider was the most attended sporting event since COVID-19 and the Maroons were given the opportunity to play at their home patch on Suncorp Stadium.
Further west, 430km from Suncorp Stadium, Roma pubgoers gathered at the Commonwealth Hotel to watch the game over a pub feed and a beer.
Pub owner Ben Cannon said he was impressed with the turnouts during the Origin nights throughout the past three weeks.
“It’s a great win,” he said.
“A massive improvement.”
Southwest footy player Kurt Capewell played for Queensland in all three matches this year and was on the second row in Game III.
The 189cm 95kg player suffered from a groin injury just before the first game but jumped right into the competition in the final game with only a minor injury to his knee.
And while he didn’t score any tries during Origin, he made 58 tackles and made two line breaks.
