RECORDS SMASHED: Swimmers clock epic times in Augathella
IT WAS the perfect excuse for a dip in the pool over the weekend with Augathella experiencing highs well and truly into the 40s, but Cunnamulla’s swimmers weren’t there to splash around.
With eight swimmers recording new personal best times and two new pool records set at the Augathella Swimming Carnival over the weekend, it was a particularly fruitful day for the Amateur Swimming Club.
Secretary, Tina Jackson said the club was stoked with all of their swimmer’s efforts.
“We had six-year-old Dallas Ramsay smash 15 seconds off of his PB in the 15 metre butterfly and Brooke Roberts managed to shave an incredible 26 seconds from her best time in nine years 50 metre breaststroke.
“Penny Schmidt broke the pool record for the six years 15 metre butterfly and breaststroke and Charlotte Ramsay broke the pool record in the nine years 50 metre butterfly and backstroke, so they had a stellar carnival.
“Ruby Schmidt, Jesse Fett, Caileb Thorpe, Kellie Brain and Chloe Fett also managed to improve significantly on their previous personal best times so it was a really exciting carnival for the whole squad.”
Ms Jackson said the club was very proud of all 57 of their swimmers for working hard so far this swim season.
“That was only their second carnival this season so it’s going to be great to see how far all of our swimmers develop and improve over the next few months.
“We have had lots of new younger kids join this year which is great.”
Rachelle Cameron from the Augathella Aqua Ants Swim Club said they had a fantastic carnival with 78 competitors from Blackall, Charleville, Cunnamulla and Augathella.
“Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam new personal bests and placed as well as several of our swimmers who are now club record holders.
“Eva Newell how holds the 9 years 50 metre freestyle record, Ruby Newell beat the 13 years 50 metre freestyle, butterfly and backstroke time.
“Grace Cameron now holds the 7 years 25 metre butterfly pool record, Jaylee Smith has the 11 years 50 metre butterfly as well as the 10 years and under individual medley.
“Stirling Cameron took home the 12 years 50 metre butterfly record, Erika Petfield smashed the club and pool record for the 6 years and under breaststroke, Ava Henry broke the 8 years 25 metre backstroke, Sophie Nunn broke the 8 years breaststroke time and Harrison Shaw had an incredible carnival setting new records for the 12 years 50 and 100 metre breaststroke, 50 metre backstroke, as well as the 12 and under individual medley.”
Ms Cameron wished to thank the hardworking Augathella committee for their efforts at the annual carnival.
“A special mention goes out to our announcer and chief timekeeper Guy Newell, chief marshall Nat Newell, starter Dugald Shaw and referee John Elmes for their professionalism,” she said.
“Thank you to everyone who helped out on Saturday. We could not have done it without you.”
