REVEALED: Who will, who won’t run for council

AS THE race for Maranoa Regional election heats up, The Western Star has compiled a list of confirmed candidates.

Residents will head to the polls on March 28 to vote for the eight councillors and mayor who will lead the region until 2024.

Candidates have until Tuesday, March 3 to nominate themselves with the Electoral Commission of Queensland.

To date, current mayor Tyson Golder is hoping to stand again, but he could face competition from councillor David Schefe who has also put up his hand.

To date, two current councillors have confirmed he won't be running. Peter Flynn has blamed public attacks and mounting red tape, and Jan Chambers has described the last term as 'deeply troubling'.
