Saleyards celebrate 50 years in operation
CATTLE and folk are predicted to fill Roma Saleyards next week as the largest cattle selling facility in the southern hemisphere celebrates 50 years in operation.
On October 8, council will celebrate the occasion with a 50 per cent reduction in liveweight, open auction and agent operating fees for each head of cattle at Tuesday's store sale.
In addition, AAM Operations Pty Ltd are contributing to the reduced fees for this sale, by 20c per head on the scanning and 30c per head on the livestock movement.
Roma Saleyards councillor Peter Flynn said he was excited for next week's event.
"This is an incredible opportunity to pay tribute to a facility, that over the course of 50 years, has seen over 11million head of cattle sold at a value of $5billion,” Cr Flynn said.

The day will consist of a tour, a special guest Senator James McGrath who will assist in the official unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a barbecue lunch.
7.45am - Introduction and anniversary sale announcement
8am - Anniversary sale commences
8.15am - Roma Saleyards Tour (hosted by one of our local guides)
9.30am - Official welcome and unveiling of commemorative plaque
11am-2pm - Barbecue
